Ensemble Rehearsal
Guys, we will stay tonight and rehearse “Written in Red” and “Sweet, Sweet Spirit”. We are going to sing on Mother’s Day & let the ladies have the day off (at least in the early service).
CONNIE DEWEESE
Connie went into surgery at Harris NW around 7:15 this morning. The surgeons removed 8-9 inches of her colon and her appendix for good measure. She had a malignant tumor that had eaten through the wall of the colon, causing the infection she experienced several weeks back. I will share more details during prayer time.
Anna Laura Cutshall fell from a ladder this morning and broke her hip. She is in Harris NW, also.
Just a thought – from “Rehearsing the Soul” by Terry York
“Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.”
From stanza 1 of “Take My Life, and Let It Be Consecrated” by Frances Havergal
You never know when one of a day’s 1,440 minutes is going to turn out to be a moment—one of those defining or teaching or life-changing moments. It is a wise person who learns to live each minute in the knowledge that it has the potential of becoming such a moment.
Moments can occur anytime—during a choir rehearsal or during the choir’s leadership in the worship event. The Holy Spirit brings new meaning to the text or music of an anthem, through both the singing of it and the hearing of it. While these moments cannot be manufactured, they can and should be anticipated. Happily, they are not confined to the rehearsal room or the choir loft.
When minutes turn into moments, we should take the time to thank God for them. They serve as little spiritual retreats. We do well to thank God every time He lets us know that we are not alone, or forgotten, or insignificant. When the Creator of the universe takes time to touch one of our moments, we should pause to say “thank You.”
An interesting thing happens when we begin to expect and recognize minutes that have been transformed into moments: we g begin to see more of them. Soon we are living lives of expectancy. A day is not something that happens inside our wristwatch—it is life, lived now and in the presence of the Holy Spirit. We start to understand the apostle Paul’s admonition to pray without ceasing the hymn writer’s belief that we can string together moments of praise like a ceaseless string of pearls.
Everyone has the same number of minutes in a day. Sadly, some people have very few moments. Through Jesus Christ, God stepped into time. Through the Holy Spirit, God transforms time. One moment in your life or in the life of a parishioner is worth the minutes you invest in rehearsal and in worship.
“Dear God, take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise. Help me to breathe deeply and be aware of your presence. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
